Samsung Wallet: Samsung and Toyota Partner to Launch Digital Key, The 3 Best Features

Samsung Electronics has officially integrated Digital Key support for Toyota vehicles into Samsung Wallet. Starting in January 2026, Galaxy smartphone users can transition away from physical keys to a more integrated, mobile-first driving experience.

Key Features and Functionality of Samsung Wallet

The new update allows owners of compatible 2026 Toyota RAV4 models to manage their vehicles directly from their phones:

  • Hands-Free Access: Utilising Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, drivers can unlock and start their cars without even taking their phones out of their pockets.
  • NFC Backup: Near Field Communication (NFC) is also supported for tap-to-unlock functionality at close range.
  • Key Sharing: Users can digitally “hand over” their keys to family or friends via the app. Access permissions can be managed or revoked instantly, offering better control for multi-driver homes.

Security and Peace of Mind

Samsung has prioritised safety by housing these digital keys within Samsung Knox, their high-level security architecture.

  • Bank-Grade Protection: The system meets EAL 6+ certification standards, ensuring that digital key data is protected against sophisticated hacking attempts.
  • Remote Management: If a user loses their smartphone, they can use the Samsung Find service to remotely disable or erase the digital key, preventing unauthorised access to the vehicle.
  • Biometric Verification: Additional layers, such as fingerprint or PIN authentication, ensure that only the owner can trigger vehicle commands.

Global Rollout Schedule

The feature is launching in phases, beginning with the United States and Canada this month. A broader release across Europe is expected to follow, in line with the regional release dates for the 2026 Toyota lineup. hstech

“Our goal is to eliminate the friction in daily routines,” says Woncheol Chai, EVP at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business. “By bringing these tools to Toyota drivers, we are making the journey from the front door to the driver’s seat faster and more secure.”
